While the D-Link DIR-655 has worked great for me (and a lot of other people) I do suggest that you do your own research before buying. Reading reviews and especially user reviews on sites like Amazon.com will help you make the best decision for your situation.

Best of luck.

thanks for the tip! i did read that wireless N is supposed to have more reliable signal, so it might be that once the WRT54G latches on to the signal it'll produce better speeds just 'cause of the more robust connection. sorry, but that's the only way my brain can comprehend all of this.

i'll be picking up that router you recommended. THANKS!

That could be the case. The D-Link DIR-655 802.11n router I'm using has received great reviews about its connection strength - that's part of the reason I got one - and I can verify that my signal strength with my laptop on 802.11g is better with it. I haven't had a drop out yet on the wireless network with it.

If you got a good wireless-N router you might not see better connection speeds just with 802.11g devices, which would still be limited to 54Mbps. But there is a chance you could see better stability with your connections like I have.

I can fully recommend the D-Link DIR-655 as a wireless-N router if you're considering one. They can be had for about $130 CAD on sale.

do you think the robustness of the connection is due to the signal originating from your wireless N router?

like you, i have a WRT-54G set up as a wireless bridge using DD-WRT. this WRT-54G connects my XBMC, Xbox360 and whatever else to my wireless network.

the main router is an old Belkin. if i replace this with a wireless N, would I see greater speeds? i'm not too sure if the presence of G-devices would degrade the network.
