Answering Cotax's post above ...

1 - doesnt boot up when windows starts ... Yes it does!
2 - doesnt remember settings for fans ... Yes it does!
3 - doesnt set fan speed to desired when speedfan starts ... Yes it does!
4 - - loading time of speedfan is to long ... Possibly , but this is a subjective thing , It's 20 seconds or so in my system , not a problem for me! Perhaps I'm not in that much of a rush?!
5 - - speedfan always detect like 10 fans while i got 3, rest are all duplicates ... This is true , but if you read the instructions , you will notice that it's up to you to 'filter' out the irrelevant ones you don't need. You did read the instructions I hope?

The bottom line is Speedfan is a free program and no-one is forcing you to use it! If you do use it , at least take the time to set it up properly before you start whingeing about it!

Happy New Year folks!!

A very useful and informative page! I'd love to see 'idiots guide' on every program - whereby when one hovers over a button, it tells you what it does and what the implications are if you change a value etc.etc. Maybe you should do this Peter. I'd love to do it, but I'm one of those idiots!

Speedfan is just trash.....
- doesnt boot up when windows starts
- doesnt remember settings for fans
- doesnt set fan speed to desired when speedfan starts
- loading time of speedfan is to long.
- speedfan always detect like 10 fans while i got 3, rest are all duplicates.

Just buy a connector extender for the fan to let it rotate at lower volts...

see pic:

best option u have if u cant configure it in the Bios.

I'd like to be able to tie my case fan speeds to my core temps.

This is working great with my exhaust fan hooked up to the sys fan 2 header on a GA-X58A-UD3R mobo. Unfortunately, of the six fan headers on this mobo, only two can be speed controlled - cpu and sys fan2. Two of the other four headers can be detected, but not controlled. And the final two can neither be detected nor controlled.

I'm assuming that I'll need a fan controller for these fans. Can anyone suggest a fan controller that works well with Speedfan. Can Speedfan detect sensor temp probes on this controller?

Thank you Peter!

What a fantastic little program. I'd tried Speedfan some time ago and given up.

Thanks to you and others here my machine is running tickity boo! I'm able to tie my case fans to my cpu and northbridge temps. I'm even able to use my cpu fan to help keep my northbridge temps down.

There seems to be an extra step to setup now in the latest Speedfan! This is what I did to get things going properly.

I'm using v4.44 and I noticed there is an extra tab in the 'Configure' window called 'Fan Control'.

In here tick 'Advanced fan control'
Click 'ADD' button to add a fan controller , name it 'CPU' for example.
Highlight 'CPU' , tick 'Controlled Speed'
Pick one of your fans from the drop-down list , I used 'Speed01'
Now you will see a 'Temperatures' list , so click the 'ADD' button , a window will pop-up , pick a temperature , I added 'Temp1' which is my cpu.
Now highlight this temperature and you will see a 'response' graph which Speedfan will use to variate the Fan speed!

I'm just using this with a bit of trial and error at the moment, but it seems to work just fine!

My CPU fan is no longer stuck at MAX speed ... try it and see how you get on folks!!

Just installed speedfan and trying to decipher what I see. Installed it because I thought I had an overheating issue - my computer was randomly shutting down. Then I got a "CMOS Checksum Bad". As soon as I installed Speedfan, and then restarted, the fans took off and are constantly 4200-4500 rpm. I know they were on before, but I couldn't really hear them, and can def. hear them now. Does Speedfan by default run your fans at 100%? And, unless the noise is too irritating, is it best to run your fans at 100%?

While web browsing, this is what my values roughly show, and I'm not sure what they might be referring to, or if any are concerning:

(green check) Temp 1: 39C
(down arrow) Temp 2: 36C
(bright flame) Temp 3: 60C
(green check) HD0: 42C
(down arrow) Core 0: 33C
(down arrow) Core 1: 27C
(down arrow) Core 2: 32C
(down arrow) Core 3: 38C

My Acer Quad Core was only running for a couple minutes before it shut down randomly earlier today...and after the speedfan install it hasn't shut down for about an hour. I wonder if I should still do something about the SMOS thing...

Thanks for any interpretation anyone can provide!
Cheers

I have a Corsair H100 Watercooled set up on a MSI P67A-GD65 Board with a 2600K proc.

I have been all over trying to figure a fan controller for the H100. For one the H100 is notorious for the all in one fan controller going out. Second on high the fans sound like a microwave, a loud one!

Anyhow I stumbled over SpeedFan and suprised I forgot I've used it years ago. Peters blog was a timesaver as PeedFan isn't exactly intuative with "Speeds" meaning fans etc. My question is everything now works great in SpeedFan as long as I use Sysfan 1 or 2, even works on my Asus HD6870 GPU. BUT it doesn't work on the CPU fan header. Percentages show up, verified in CPUID HWMonitor. For instance set it at 25% in speedFan it shows up as such but the fans stay on high. I disabled smartfan in the MB bios but still does it. Any clues?

Oh yeah! Here's my post on Corsairs Forums about SpeedFan and Peters Blog http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?p=528572#post528572.

#64, Thanks!

Everytime computer wakes up or i have to reboot, my settings for speedfan resets. Putting it on the startup menu saved the day. Thanks because i have been playing with it a couple of days.

Also, if you are not able to control your fans, you have to set the as software controlled in speedfan.

Hopes this helps as #63 helped me.
