Ajax, originally meaning “Asynchronous JavaScript and XML”, has come to generally mean any term used to make web applications richer and more dynamic. This is usually accomplished by updating parts of the screen separately, thus giving the appearance of a regular, desktop application, all while using standards-based techniques. Some say this is the basis for Web 2.0.
